ABOUT US
What we Believe
The Bible
We believe the Bible, both Old and New Testament is the complete revelation from God and is verbally inspired. We believe the King James authorized Bible is God’s preserved Word.
The Person of God
We believe God is supreme in His person, eternal in His being, absolute in His attributes, glorious in His perfection. We believe in the Trinity.
The Person of Jesus
We believe in the virgin birth of Christ, His deity and sinless life, His vicarious death, His bodily resurrection and ascension, and in His personal, pre-tribulation, and premillennial return
The Person of the Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, and that His purpose is to convict sinners and offer salvation through the person of Jesus Christ. Christians are partakers of the Holy Spirit and empowered for service by Him. He is the Great Comforter.
The Fall of Man
We believe that man was created in the image of God and by choice fell into sin and death. Hence, every person is sinful and under condemnation to eternal judgment.
The Security of the Believer
We believe that those who receive Jesus Christ as Savior are eternally secure. Our security rests on the finished work of Jesus Christ as a result we have assurance.
The Salvation of Sinners
We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace, and that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation. The condition of salvation is repentance toward God and Faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work. We believe salvation produces a new creature.
The Church
We believe that the visible church is a congregation of baptized believers, practicing New Testament principles, believing its doctrine, observing its ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s supper and exercising its autonomy.
The Doctrine of Heaven and Hell
We believe in the eternal blessedness of the saved in Heaven and the eternal punishment of the lost in Hell.
We Believe in the Great Commission
As given by our Lord which is to preach the Gospel to the whole world and to seek the salvation of lost souls.
Mt Zion Baptist Church
The Mt Zion Baptist Church was established in December 2003. It began as a work sent out of Victory Baptist Church in Dayton with three charter members, Bro Andy and Sis. Wendy and Bro John Lockhart. The church began in a storefront building located in Tracy city, After filling up the building, the church began looking for land and started a building fund for a new church. The Lord graciously allowed the church to miraculously be given the land that Bro. Andy had prayed on concerning a Baptist Church in the area, before joining the Victory Baptist Church. The Lord Jesus miraculously allowed him to meet the owner that was from a different state in a divine way and develop a friendship, while never having any idea he owned this land. After obtaining the land, the money came in to build the members of Mt. Zion a permanent meeting place at it’s present location of 21644 SR 108 in Coalmont Tennessee. Since the time of moving to the new location, the Lord has allowed the church to build an outdoor tabernacle where the Old fashioned Ebenezer Bible Camp has been established. The Camp is geared to the youth, with activities throughout the day and services twice a day. Since it’s beginning in 2022, several have been saved, some have announced their call to preach, many lives have been affected, and Christian growth has been seen.
Our Pastor
On April 12, 1998, Andy Lockhart attended Biven’s Chapel First Congregational Methodist Church. That day he saw his need for salvation. It was then that he repented of his sins and trusted the Lord Jesus as his personal savior. He then joined the Church, was baptized, and immediately began laboring for the Lord. Several months after being saved, in January of 1999, Brother Andy surrendered to preach the gospel. The Lord began to bless his ministry greatly and allowed him to preach in many churches across the state. During a short pastorate in Mcminnville, TN, Bro. Andy began to see the truth of eternal security and eternal life. He resigned as pastor of the church and immediately started trying to find an independent Baptist Church. With the Lord’s divine leadership, he ended up in Victory Baptist Church in Dayton, Tennessee under pastor Leland Frazier.
Brother Andy married his wife Wendy August, 14 1998 at the age of 26. Mrs. Wendy and her parents were active in church her entire life. She was saved at the age of 18 at Bivens Chapel Church, while Bro. Ellis Chastain was preaching a revival.
After attending the Victory Baptist Church in Dayton, TN for a short time, Bro. Andy and Sis. Wendy felt like it was God‘s will to join that church and did so by baptism. Bro. Andy, after some time felt God’s leading to plant an Independent Baptist Church back where he lived. He was ordained to preach through the Victory Baptist Church and was sent out to start the Mt Zion Baptist Church in Tracy City, Tennessee. Brother Andy has been the pastor of Mt Zion Baptist Church for over 20 years, since it’s beginning in December 2003.
Throughout his ministry at Mt Zion , Pastor Lockhart has seen the Lord bless greatly, changing hearts and working in lives; the church continues to grow both in attendance and spirituality. The church has been able to ordain and send out 3 preachers to pastor with many more preachers involved in the church today. Bro. Lockhart counts it a privilege and an honor to pastor Mt Zion Baptist Church and to be able to worship with his friends and family.
